π©Έ = a random diagnosis. Neurocysticercosis for you, my friend! This one is a parasite. Basically if you eat pork with larvae (or consume contaminated water etc etc), they will attach to your intestinal wall, and grow into a tapeworm. In some rare cases, like yours hypothetically, this tapeworm will attack your nervous system, and your brain. Usually this causes things like seizures, intracranial hypertension, cognitive impairment, etc. It also makes for very disturbing MRIs showing brains full of holes! This is a big problem in less developed countries, so there's actually a lot of treatment and you might make it through it, depending on where the tapeworm is and how long it has been there. Thank you for your ask
π©Έ!!! I love your THEME! The colors drive me crazy...
Thank you very much :-)
π©Έ= a random diagnosis.
You get Naegleriasis! this will present with symptoms very similar to meningitis, such as fever and vomiting, and you'll have roughly 20 days to live. What's happening is bacteria, Naegleria fowleri, get in through your nose while swimming and make their way to your brain, where they feeds on the nerve tissue and rapidly multiply, which is why they are called a 'brain-eating amoeba' (there are a few other strains that cause similar symptoms and work similarly, so the term is used to describe all of them). The mortality rate is roughly 98.5%, with only a handful of people surviving with intense treatment, and only two documented cases of people making full recoveries.
Thank you for your ask

π¦· = check-in ( what we are up to , etc )
we have been SICK as HELL since last week & dealing with a new alter too so lots going on!!! managing okay considering though. trying to help the new guy but he does not seem interested asldflkf at least he does our homework. anyway it (sickness) isn't covid & is just a nasty cough. Maybe a bit of viral pneumonia, I heard it was going around. but im a USAmerican so i will not be going to the doctor to check for sure unless things get worse yk how it is! Overall we r like... I dont want to say "good" because we are sick & splitting is not good but like emotionally right now we chillin, if that makes sense.
tldr so much going on but we stay silly! :) thanks for the ask!!
diagnosem e Now.
[gently places a single mosquito on your exposed skin, checks watch as it bites, then i swat it away] Congratulations! You get the rarest form of West Nile Virus; West Nile Encephalitis! This rare complication takes your symptoms from flu-like / maybe a rash to high fever, headache, stiff neck, vomiting, then to confusion, altered reflexes, seizures, coma, and maybe even paralysis! This disease is new to North America, only coming here in 1999. Before then, this virus was mostly known to Africa, then Asia and Europe. We arent sure what made it come here but it is here to stay now. Anyway in your brand you'll be getting a personality change/delusion/altered conciousness for at least 24 hours and some paralysis... it could progress to hypothermia! If I recall correctly during the main outbreaks that brought this disease to light in the USA, victims died of heart failure and/or during seizures. Also, they identified that it was a bug-borne illness because all of the people getting sick were bad golfers who went out at dusk! So they'd be in the tall grass! how silly is that? Thank you for your ask :-)
π©Έ Oh boy, what is it doc?
π©Έ = a random diagnosis. [spins big wheel, reads result and promptly shoots you with ray gun] acute radiation poisoning! sorry! I'm going to walk you through what will happen in the worst possible scenario where you get chernobyl or demon core levels of radiation- okay? okay! First things first: youre exposed! AAAH! >8 gy!!! at first you are sick- like really sick. vomit comes first, then out the other end too, then you get a headache, and then a "change in mental status". Can't forget the fever!! Okay, now if you had a lower dose you'd likely have a period where it would seem youre getting better. Maybe youre a little more clear-headed, colors returned to your face, etc. This is because your cells are replicating & healing one last time- the radiation has stopped you from making new cells after these ones, so you are absolutely cooked from here on out. Your skin is sloughing off! Youre bald! You didnt even know you could bleed from there but here we are! Likely your heart will give out, or you'll have a seizure and die. The false recovery period of this illness is so twisted and fascinating to me. Because you are getting better, just, not for long. Thanks for your ask! Sorry about the radiation. [nudges your melting body with toe of shoe] yeesh.

π©Έ = a random diagnosis. oh hello teacher. i've seen you around. You get rabies!!!!! πππ a personal favorite!!!! You will have flu-like symptoms as well as muscle aches and brain fog for some time. There will be little to no indication of anything more than the flu aside from maybe tingling near the point of exposure (bite, scratch, etc) working its way up to your head over the course of days, months... it depends. Rabies' incubation period can last anywhere from a few weeks to years, and by the time you show any symptoms it is too late. You do not have long. Less than a year by the time you end up in a hospital. Probably weeks or days by the time you start rejecting water, which is a tell-tale sign and usually how people realize rabies if the bite/scratch is not identified. Fun fact! rabies does not make you "afraid of water" it makes your throat muscles (previously barely used) actually convulse when you attempt to swallow water. This response is so painful that sufferers, confused and delirious by this point, do act fearful when given water, only because theyre reminded of how awful it is. There is an experimental form of treatment- the Milwaukee protocol- that may save you, but it is up to your family, since it's not officially proven to work consistently. See there's actually some evidence rabies is survivable. In isolated civilizations without access to the vaccine (which can stop the disease before it advances if youre given it quickly after exposure, then a few more times after) there were corpses discovered that had rabies antibodies in their system. Antibodies are what vaccines give you, they say "i had this virus and i beat it! no more for me!". Vaccines trick your body into developing them, but they can develop naturally if you survive a disease. Meaning these people, without access to a rabies vaccine, had beaten it. And the rabies virus had cleared from the sufferer's systems. So a doctor in Milwaukee gathered from this, if the body had enough time to fight the disease without it reaching the brain, the tools to beat it were already there. Thus he developed the Milwaukee protocol; you will be essentially put into a near-death state, kept alive by machines, and pumped full of medication, until the rabies clears. This has been successful around 5 times since its invention in 2004, but attempted around 40 (rounding up on the latter, its closer to 35). (ive heard of more survivors using this method, but i cant find evidence of it as of writing so perhaps im mistaken.) However there is an alternate theory for why antibodies are present in some bodies-- some people just have the immune system to develop it, and some people do not. Some sort of genetic miracle. Because this cannot be ruled out, as I said, the Milwaukee protocol is not officially seen as a cure or even recommended as a treatment plan in most cases. If it were me, though, and I missed the vaccine period... I'd give it a shot. The first survivor went from one foot in the grave to a near full-recovery.
Thank you for your ask, and I apologize for the length of this post.
Oh, happy 157th birthday Marie Curie.
and i still have to go to math class.
seeing the map light up red is genuinely so fucking scary and depressing. like, really, after YEARS of trumps crimes being public knowledge? his cruelty and villainy brought to light, screamed from rooftops, he was IMPEACHED for christ's sake, he tried organizing a COUP, he literally attempted to stop democracy in its tracks. what good reason is there to vote for him? theres none. not one. hes nothing but an incompetent, evil puppet for whatever organizations give him enough money. nothing about what he does is american. our country is rife with flaws and dishonesty, yes, but even the principles we claim to be founded on he doesn't even pretend to respect. our country was founded by people seeking asylum from tyranny, for fucks sake, and he aims to close borders to people doing just that. I could go on. kamala isn't great either, sure, but come on. if my queer, blended family and i are forced to flee, or worse, i blame each and every one of the spineless so-called leftists that clutched their pearls and abstained from voting on moral grounds. we need to have rights to fight for the rights of others. we have no chance if we are all branded pedophiles or terrorists and put in prisons or camps or deported. there is nothing that will be better for marginalized people if he takes office again, nothing at all. holding the line and keeping our office blue is the literal, actual, least we can do.
Does anyone have some good books to read? Im reading a book rn, but I would love to read another book when I done with it.
If you can handle nonfiction I've been reading The Butchering Art and it's very interesting. The Shining and Desperation by Stephen King are some recent reads I've enjoyed. I hope you find something
i've fallen ill someone sedate me ive had a cough for a few days and general bad health... ive had to stay home from school but now im understimulated. hell on earth

Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva. It is an extremely rare connective tissue disorder in which your muscles, tendons, ligaments etc turn into bone. It's the only known disease where one organ system changes to another! How interesting is that? Photos of the "skeletons" of those who have passed from this are shocking to say the least. We aren't sure what causes it.
π = something we are happy about
Next semester, we will take anatomy and physiology. We are already very happy about this but apparently, we have a friend who also took it and they got to dissect a lambs brain and a piglet. One of our main regrets across our high school career was not getting to dissect anything (we are, unsurprisingly, very interested in how bodies function), but now we know we will! Very much looking forward to it.

Absolutely.

I just got home from seeing a production of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. This book is very important to us, we read it at a very formative time in our life- when I realized it would not be the musical, I was nervous, and the online information about the adaptation had me even more worried- but there was nothing to be concerned about. It was lovely and much more faithful than the adaptation I thought I'd be seeing.

[splashes mystery liquid on you] you now have organophosphate toxicity. You will have severe breathing problems, excessive salivating, and likely die of respiratory failure if it is not identified and treated accordingly. There was a case of several children in California falling ill with this, after buying secondhand jeans that had been exposed. I don't recall if any died but I know one came very close.
Thank you for your ask and the compliment.
Does anyone here like final destination!?!?! i watched the 1st and 2nd one last night and im hyperfixtating

Helloooo you get Locked-In Syndrome aka Pseudocoma. It is when your brain is entirely alert & functioning but you are paralyzed completely except for your eyes. (there is also a variant where the eyes are paralyzed as well). It is hard to tell when someone has it, the only differences between other coma / total paralysis patients being eye movement, sleep/wake cycles, and brain activity. Diagnosis usually takes months of testing and careful consideration. In some cases the lungs are paralyzed as well, making the sufferer resemble a corpse. Full recovery has never been achieved but near-full recoveries have been accomplished through extensive physical therapy in a handful of cases (literally a handful, there have been five). I imagine if this condition is not caught it may be possible to be treated as another life-support patient- i.e your life in someone else's hands, despite having all of your cognitive abilities intact. Thank you for the ask.
π©Έ diagnose me with super awesomeness
I am diagnosing you with Nipah virus infection. You have a ~50 to 75% risk of death, though in some outbreaks the fatality rate is 100%. It is possible for you to feel better before dying, as it is known to persist and lie dormant in survivors before re-activating. Your symptoms (if any) can worsen from confusion, shortness of breath, etc, into a coma over the course of a day or two. I enjoy the seal on your profile by the way very cute
send me a π©Έ and i'll give you a random diagnosis im bored

What was your favorite event or piece of media to come out of the 2024 Halloween season?
Horror movies this year have been fairly good, I was happy with the ones I saw. Specifically in the fall, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice brought me great joy
hai 1st public question here we go! how did you find or get introduced to your current interest, fixation or special interest? :3c
Re-animator........ stares out the window. I don't even remember, it's all such a blur. What motivated us in part was knowing our partner sys had an introject from it, we were curious what their source was like even if we had never spoken personally. Then I believe the anniversary came around, and horror is an overall special interest, and it was october, so we decided, what the hell, why not. So here we are.
as a child we had a stim of putting our fingers in our mouth, up until we were like, 12, so we have definitely consumed the remnants of things like cleaning products and whatnot. but actually eaten is different, i'd say maybe HJ-7, one of our hosts own concoctions. it is similar to the tiktok "battery acid" drink, but with a specific recipe and made to be as smooth as possible- no random candies floating around. For awhile we allowed it once a month, since we knew how awful it was we were trying to reign it in, and then our dentist said our front teeth were "melted" and we decided that was enough of that. Only had it a handful of times since, for special occasions.
question OTD : 1/11/24
starting off with something simple, what is your favourite food?
chicken & potatoes are up there for me. boring, i know, but theyre so versatile in the ways you can prepare them. mashed and fried rotisserie and baked etc etc... also my irish ass is not immune to the beauty of the potato
