I'd recommend "The Westing Game" by Ellen Raskin as a good fiction read!! it's this big crazy mystery book that does such a good job throwing people for a loop, but if you want nonfiction, i'd also recommend "The 57 Bus".
The Giver, Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy and 10 Little Niggers (take into account in the 19th century when it was made "nigger" was the polite term, if you wanted to insult a black guy you said "negro" instead)
If you prefer non-fiction instead, I recommend Ignition a lot.
If you can handle nonfiction I've been reading The Butchering Art and it's very interesting. The Shining and Desperation by Stephen King are some recent reads I've enjoyed. I hope you find something
"to sleep in a sea of stars" by christopher paolini is my favorite book ever
(realized I could just post what my follow-up response to "fiction or nonfiction?" was going to be)
If you're looking for fiction, the "2001: A Space Odyssey" novelization by Arthur C. Clarke comes highly recommended from me.
If you're looking for nonfiction, "Let This Radicalize You" by Kelly Hayes and Mariame Kaba inspired me quite a bit recently.
