rarepairs are truly fascinating because if you like unpopular characters then literally any ship with them in it can be considered a rarepair, even if its the most popular ship with those characters in it. i.e. i've seen people say midotetoshino or any iteration of ships with this trio be considered rare pairs but as a ryuseitai kouhaiP they feel rather popular?? the only ship that i can think of that tops that is midochia (though that only applies to non-english fandom). i think a lot of people do enjoy midotetoshino to some degree, which in my mind makes them not a rarepair, but since they're so lacking in content they also are a rarepair? its because its a popular ship for non-popular characters so people like it but not a lot of people gaf THAT much about the characters in those ships to actually make content for said ships. its in a weird grey area.

i hope this makes sense to some degree. i just think these kinds of discussion on rarepair culture to be rather interesting.
