french american using a japanese name Were you even given permission to do so?????
Are you referring to the katakana in my display name here? You do realize that I just took it because that's the Japanese version of Ingo's name, right? Unless γγγͺ has a very deep, complex meaning and sacred usage in Japanese culture, I don't think I've actually borrowed anything disrespectfully from that culture.
It's only a problem if I try claiming that this name isn't at all Japanese and I made it up myself. That's called "cultural appropriation". But I never claimed that any of my names were of my own making.
And then, my own personal opinion, I believe it would be wrong if I took a name of a deity or a spiritual figure from any culture or religion. But I'm doing none of those, am I?
"Were you even given permission to do so?????" Am I going to have to call the president of Japan and ask if I can use the Japanese version of a character I kin's name? /s
Also why are you staying anonymous if you think you have a correct opinion? Who are you hiding your account from like this?
Lmfao, you're not actually serious about your opinion or having a real debate at this rate, that's so funny. /s

Sorry for that sounding a bit insensitive or ignorant, but the anon didn't add much substance to the debate.
However there is one thing I'd like to ask; do you think or know if there are any names in Japanese that shouldn't be used by an outsider? I've got one other name that never gets used (γ¦γΌγ) and even if we weren't on the topic of whether a westerner like me should use a Japanese name, I've thought about dropping it or switching it for something else.
I thought it'd be nice to hear directly from someone who is Japanese, but no pressure. You really aren't obligated to respond. Thank you.
hi i was expecting something worse bc the TL;DR does make you sound ignorant (coming from a japanese person) but almost every pokΓ©mon character's name is culturally insignificant. γγγͺ comes from the word δΈγ, which literally just means "down", just like how "ingo" comes from the word "ingoing". anon i know you were well intentioned but a lot of pokΓ©mon characters have either loan words or Fake Names as their name
