interestingly, nintendo considers the maker games and run to be "super mario" games but not yoshi's island, despite the full title having "super mario" at the start. imo if Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins is super mario enough so is Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. the japanese title of yoshi's island doesn't name it as a prequel to super mario world, but the title is still "Super Mario: Yoshi's Island"

you count Mario Maker 1 & 2 and Mario Run? I personally don't, but I also consider Yoshi's Island a mainline game so my opinion is irrelevant
