i also think it might be because non-canon relationships aren’t as restricted as canon ones iykwim, the shippers have more room to imagine how they would act sort of thing? if it were canon, it’d be completely up to the author how their relationship grows and it might not align with the readers’ impression of the ship or something. just my 2 cents tho!

Why do you think most people prefer non canon ships than canon ones (especially for m/m and f/f)? I know someone who don't want to read/watch BL & GL but love queerbaiting series (male-male dynamics & female-female dynamics but until the end they don't become couple) and they even write fics for those duos (where they got together i fics). I also love some non canon ships but canon ones are the best!
