Hey all!

I'm sure you're used to this by now if you're into smaller websites like this, but we're officially launching a Patreon!

Servers are more expensive than I can cover for the rest of time, so tiny support from people who are passionate about the idea is so super helpful!

We're passionate about creating a simple social media platform that is free of algorithms and harmful practices which are designed to keep people addicted.

All of Neospring's development is open source, and as of now has all been done by one person (me) with some tiny PRs here and there.

Over the past week, we've added:

Website skins (+ skins per profile) (In your settings! Account settings for local, profile settings for on your profile)
Better reporting
Global searching (at https://neospring.org/search)
Better permissions through the Helper permission
Profile embeds (any profile /embed)
3 new timelines available from your timeline feeds
A bunch of tiny bug fixes

There's a ton more to come, but I hope that gives you the idea! We'd love to expand Neospring even more and improve our current features until they're as good as they could possibly be, but we can't do this without your help!

Changes to blocking!

Please update your block lists. Blocks are now managed through the new relationships system, and previously blocked users are now unblocked! Please manually re-add their usernames. We're sorry for the inconvenience, but this new system allows us to better manage blocked users.

Blocked users are now forced to unfollow you, and you are forced to unfollow them.

Other stuff

Line breaks in profile warning have been fixed, as well as full Markdown support in warnings...

hello . . the blocking feature seems to be really broken as I used to be mutuals with someone I now currently block, and yet I still get asks from the person in my global inbox . . .

This has been fixed for future blocks! You'll need to manually unfollow them for now, though.

is there a way to know if someones acc was banned bc sometimes i search up a user that used to exist but they dont exist anymore

Banned accounts will still be publicly visible. Deleted accounts are fully deleted with all content they created. Their questions are changed to be anonymous, their responses are deleted, circles deleted, comments, reactions, etc. Make sure you include the @ in the URL when trying to find a profile!

What are circles ?

Circles act as a shared inbox that you can invite anybody you want to. Users you invite will have to accept your invite, but once they're in, they're able to accept any questions sent to the circle inbox. You can also customize the circle as if it were another profile, such as changing the theme, anonymous settings, etc.

Some blocking things will be fixed soon, but a post continuing to be shown in your timeline is directly controlled by you because your timeline only shows posts from people you're following.

do you think you'll do anything about how someone could possibly send uncensored gore to someones inbox? i think its one of my biggest fears on this site. maybe you could implement a way to toggle an automatic blur that only disappears once u hover over/click on the image?

Images sent by anonymous users will not embed and will instead be shown as links, only images from authenticated users will be shown as an image. Anonymous blocking will also be added soon as well!

This probably wouldn't work. Data is stored in a very different way here, so importing would still require a lot of manual intervention.

Possibly. 1,000 is already quite a lot, but it can be increased! I'd like to keep it as not unlimited, but I can definitely increase it if needed!

You likely won't. It'll show that the user is not accepting questions, however this would show if they weren't accepting questions from anybody too.

Hello! The pinning feature doesn’t work for certain profiles. When it’s pinned as a copy code in the pinning bit of the profile and when it’s pinned by clicking ‘pin’ on the message! Please fix this because it’s stressing me out!!

This will likely be the case for legacy responses. Responses previously copied the question and stored it as part of the response, but responses now (as of yesterday) will just reference the question ID instead of deleting the original question. The downside of this is every response before this security change will not work the same as “real” responses, since their original question is not available anymore. Pinning should work for newer responses, though. Please let me know if you're still unable to pin a new response!
