Hello! So sorry if asking this right now seems insensitive with the current vincent situation so feel free to answer later, but I just would like to know if you have any tips for improving at Rentry? I really would like to try to branch out to more complex styles within at least the next couple months. But i’m really stumped on were to start. I take you for alot of my inspiration but I don’t want to let myself relive on you TO heavily if that makes sense, so I guess what i’m trying to ask is how did you get such a artistic spark for rentry? And where do/how do you get your ideas for them? Hope this makes sense. .

Its fine 🙂🙂 Long response ahead A few tips:

  • Contrast is very important, especially w/ image text.. I cannot count the number of times ive seen rentries where the text is unreadable due to the colour contrast / or the rentry is js hard to look at in general due to it being light colours on a light background w/ no discernable outline — I mainly use the brightness/contrast filter + mess around w/ placements on gradiation maps to achieve higher contrast on rentries. I feel like this is js a tip for editing in general; same thing with putting overlays on graphics
  • Take inspiration off multiple people! I made a pinterest board some time ago for rentries I really like— a lot of things in my rentries are also inspired off others (such as the curtain thing I do being inspired off a few rentries such as /555 and /sacred, the lace thing off /kokomi pleas e tell me you know wht im talking abt 😭😭)
  • For text layouts don't use the exact same formatting right next to another word w/ the same formatting (example: putting two bolded + black underline words next to one-another). Also dont put pixels directly under each-other, you can get away w/ this sometimes for symbols
  • Make your stuff equally spaced. Or at least close to equally spaced if ur going to put symbols in later since those obvs take up space

Reminder that this isnt a rigid set of rules for rentry.. do what you want ofc ^.^

As for how I got into rentry-making / how i got that spark I started off by making fugly unreadable bold-highlighted-struck-out text rentries based on my interests at the time (ghost and pals, ttc as in teach the cat among others)!

Circa june-july 2023 was when I was a complete beginner at rentry.. then I discovered rentrypin in I think august of 2023 and made rentries that were still fugly. But better in terms of graphics/editing

In my experience I got the hang of rentry-making around jan-feb 2024 and starting making 17 billion light pink/black themed rentries after joining a bunch of rentry/syscords! However almost all of those rentries are deleted now and the ones that are still up I'm not going to share!

Now I get my rentry ideas / what to include usually from my moots'/oomfs' rentries (Hi if any of you see this) and from browsing on rentrypin from time to time... I also use tumblr occassionally and follow a few rentryblr creators such as lavendergalactic (my graphic inspiration on /madam)... Actually thats the only one i can name off the top of my head currently nvm

Hopefully this response did manage to answer ur question 😓😓

Brother mentioned!【 /555 is a rentry of mine ﹠ /Sacred was a comm 】 🤍

Also. Extra tip resize your graphics 😭😭 I do not want to be checking out your rentry then seeing one graphic the size of africa while the rest is normal (I occasionally use my ipad whilst looking at rentries) A few resource sites I use; (shameless self-promo) /Pancreas, /Ulzzang, /Border, /xavpsogg for symbols, /Mother occasionally, /Ulquiorra
