If you choose an unattractive or random color scheme, it can backfire, making your decor look unappealing. Another thing to consider is your character if you're using one.

Make sure to use photos that would fit your character. For example, I used a gold and green color palette, along with flowers, grass, lace, and writing for my Cole layout. And from what I can tell, people seem to like it, because it's simple and viewable. Third, take inspiration from others, don't take heavy inspo though... not many people are comfortable with that. ⠀࿐ྂ
