first of all, i think that one of the breaking points for tr would be that for a very long time, he wholeheartedly & earnestly supported mttw's work, and cheered him on. but mttw never properly showed his appreciation for it, he'd say his thanks but he wouldn't do anything for tr bc he simply was so overwhelmed, and tr could only be so understanding for so long.

I think that tr's intial resentment and venom would soften quickly over the span of the first few playdates as he sees that like, mttw is so miserable and tired and it's not getting better. also it's awkward as hell during that time bc tr lashed out on day one and now mttw doesn't try to talk to him & tr has always been able to rely on mttw reaching out first. i think tr's breaking point would be mttw almost falling asleep mid-playdate and then really roughly pinching himself to stay awake, at which point tr would storm over to mttw's side, sit down and force mttw to lie down on his lap and REST. mttw would be too tired to argue and so he would. tr would very cautiously pet mttw's hair to soothe him when he seems upset.

after that, i think tr would message mttw a long text that's like "listen. your work can end our relationship, but it shouldn't end you. your pokemon need you, asshole. take care of yourself for their sake at the very least." and he sends that intending for that to be the end but mttw starts sending tr updates of like. his meals. good night texts to show that he's sleeping. photos of his pokemon to show that he's spending time with them. tr keeps saying that mttw doesn't have to Report to him, but he doesn't stop mttw directly.

tr starts to follow mttw's battling career and sends mttw critiques for every battle, win or lose (tr isn't a pro but he's a good strategist). mttw hits a winning streak shortly after and he keeps thanking tr for the help. tr starts to feel uneasy bc mttw is doing so well now, but tr is still in their town and he's single and lonely and he's so afraid that he's going to slip up and tell mttw "I love you" at any point.

tr hears that there's going to be a big gala where the elite trainers get a plus one. he doesn't think much of it, until mttw asks him to the gala at the next play date. plusle and minun are obviously eavesdropping. tr tries to brush it off, saying that mttw should take someone better than his ex, but mttw takes tr's hand and very plainly states that he doesn't want them to be exes anymore. he never did. he never stopped loving tr, and he really wants to give tr a night that he deserves, at least once. if tr doesn't want to get back together, then that's okay (it's not, and tr can tell), but at least let mttw make it up to him.

tr cautiously agrees and the night of the gala is the most romantic night of his life. mttw shows him off to everyone, proudly states that tr helped contribute to his strategy. im running out of steam but yada yada, post-gala sex, tr and mttw start slowly dating again.
