how do you usually start writing a fic? do you start with the overall concept? a particular scene? something else? 🤔
oh!!!! thank you for asking! oh my goodness that's such a good question, okay so. for the bingo fics or fest fics i've done obviously there's an outside prompt, but when it's something that's organically grown in my mind it almost always comes from this big ass note i have in my phone. usually throughout my day a piece of dialogue pops in my head, a small exchange or a single phrase and i will write that down. or, sometimes i think of a really specific feeling i would want to explore, or think of a sensation that i would love to include in a fic sometime. all of that goes in the note. when i am looking for something to write i browse the note and see what piques my fancy. the big ol wip im working on rn is from a two sentence phrase in there that's over a year old. some of these things really have time to marinate. even for something like a bingo or fest fic i pull from little things i've written in my notes too. sometimes i write poetry in there, but im not aiming to be a poet haha, so i try to convert them to something i can use in a fic!! when i actually start writing i like to try my best to go in chronological order, usually there's a scene i'll be most excited to write and if i let myself have it right away, my motivation can disappear haha, so i have to be diligent about that.
hope this answers the question :) !!
