"Soulaan means people of soul. It is an homage to Southern African Americans, largely from where most African Americans descend. Soulaan is a term used to describe Black people who descend from chattel enslavement in the United States." for people like me who have questioned their identity, the term Soulaan/Soulaani helps us acknowledge the "soul"/african parts in us. To me, it's another way of saying I'm Black/Afro-american. while I still will use the term Black-american/Afro-american because that's just who i am, i will also use the term Soulaan/Soulaani because it helps me with feeling a little closer to my roots.
