I think if there was a show about Demacia that follows Sylas, people would be arguing about where he stands on a moral compass.

As a mage in a society that actively hunts them down and sees them as a danger, I think the lengths Sylas resorted to were completely justified especially when he was due to be executed and yes that includes manipulating Lux for her light powers
