as a brownskinned latino, I don't EVER call myself a "bipoc" like I'm not fucking code vro??

I literally don't fucking care because people can do what they want, in fact if they are interested in my culture then go ahead, learn more about it and enjoy it then, that ain't my fucking problem, what I do focus on though is how I'll get to NCIS or the FBI, I have my career planned out, and that's more important as a 13 y/o conservative.

I'm Chinese and hanzi usually don't get used as decoration anyway and people don't really romanticize it either (unlike Japanese or korean). its more often they're tattoos or something. when they say weird things its just plain funny to me so I don't care

I'm white, so I should not be taken as an authority on how this applies to BIPOC folks, but...

All marginalized groups have differences of opinion within them, and very strong ones, about the means of their liberation. They have direct experience with the subject matter, but that doesn't necessarily make every single one of them right - just as working class people who voted for Trump are not necessarily right to think he'd end their economic struggle. I believe both that:

  1. members of a marginalized group should be the authority on how to treat that group, and their voice should be heard and taken seriously regardless of whether they are criticizing or upholding the actions of allies, and
  2. members of the relatively privileged group who wish to be allies still can and must use critical thinking about how to support the marginalized, rather than just taking the first marginalized person they hear at face value and assuming it represents everyone.

I think, based on what I have heard, that whether it's okay to use symbols from other cultures strongly depends on context, intent, and the consent of the culture you are pulling from.

Like especially when people not in the culture are being sticklers abt it like earlier I got pulled into a ticket bc in one of my alter intros I used arabic symbols which I CAN USE and when I kindly clairifed that I can use them a mod was just pointing out other smybols on my own main profile

like I get what you're trying to do but get a hobby
