The <b> + </b>
tag makes things bold, and it does it with the linked too! If you want italics, you can do <i> + </i>

I recommend the W3Schools HTML tutorial if you want to learn it, though it's more intended for people making their own websites
Maybe it ignores markdown when you're inside an HTML tag? If so you could try using the HTML syntax for links:
<center><a href=https://example.com>Example</a></center>
