isnt doom the reason that tf2 exists? correct me if im wrong but i believe people modded doom to make Team Fortress 1, those people got hired, and then we now have tf2?

Team Fortress was actually based on Quake, a "spiritual successor" of sorts to Doom from the same company

There have been commercial games based on the Doom engine though: Heretic, Hexen, Strife and Chex Quest!
