Pre-debut to boys planet:

• they met in cube and trained together (the assumption is that they only overlapped for a maximum of 5 months but we're not really sure how long they were there together)
• hanbin's first impression of matthew is that he was muscular but he's very cute. it was only when matthew called him "hyong~" that hanbin realized that matthew was younger skskgk

• they did a lot of things together when they were trainees - sneaked out in the middle of the night to eat chicken, went on drives, went stargazing, went on dates @ hongdae
• when hanbin left cube, he gave matthew a letter in english (he translated using papago) where hanbin said he's sorry they couldn't debut together, and matthew still keeps that letter in his wallet to this day

• when matthew wanted to go back home to canada, hanbin took him to a cafe to try to convince him to stay and try auditioning to boys planet with him (one last time, hanbin says). here are the things hanbin did to convince matthew: 1. he bought him food, 2. he showed matthew videos of his performances and told him that he can definitely do it. bc one thing you should do to someone you've only known for a year is to ask them to stay despite everything being uncertain skdkskfd. the good news is: matthew trusted hanbin and look where they are now <3

• also on episode 1, hanbin cried while watching matthew's star level test (when i saw this i Knew i was LOCKED IN. also it didn't make sense to me at the time why he would cry - he only said that watching matthew dance and look so happy made him emotional - but when he revealed that HE was the one who brought matthew here, HE was the one who convinced him to stay, it all made sense)
• on january 29, 2023, they went to a jewelry workshop and had custom engraved matching rings that they both wore in bp (3rd and 4th pic). fun fact: hanbin posted the draft of the drawings (3rd pic) engraved on their rings without context like he just assumed everyone knows what it means 😭😭
• (some time in february 2023?) hanbin went on a solo trip to jeju, but before that he met up with matthew - they took the legendary 4cut and they were wearing their matching rings!!!!!!!! See 4th frame where they were showing them off by pretending to put on lip balm except matt was holding the cap lmfao
• jongwoo said in a bp interview: “K-Group’s Seok matthew is Sung hanbin, and G-Group’s Sung hanbin is Seok matthew” which just tells me that they’re equals in terms of skill
• some extra bp contents: matthew vs hanbin staring contest where matthew loses but he said he can 100% make hanbin lose by saying that his mom is the best ㅠㅠㅠ // pedometer contest where they wore their matching brown AF1s <3

it's like it's his habit to soothe bin when matt feels that bin needs to be comforted/to stay calm and it's such a tiny thing but it's soooo tender.... and omg the ring touching bin's skin??? like a tangible reassurance saying 'i'm here'... helloooo 😭😭😭 what if bin gets them another set of matching rings but to wear on their thumbs this time after he noticed matthew's habit...

HI HELLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OMG ok let me just preface this with the confession that i know less abt them than i do sungseok so i won't be able to present any damning evidence like how i usually do with sungseok BUT!!! let me explain the ways i love gyubgeonrik and every pair that make up this very wonderful triangulation:

• gyubrik: like sungseok, they're soulmates by choice. they met each other, became friends, and chose to stay by each other's side. like have you heard the insane things they've said to/about each other? things like "there's not one second where i didn't like you" !??!?!? and i love how they bicker but in the end they would always give in and do what the other wants. their love is playful, pure, and true. i don't think there's anything else i need to say about them because SOULMATES already encapsulates all that they are to each other

• geonrik: they're very very interesting to me especially more recently because ricky has been very forward abt how he feels/thinks about gunwook - saying that he wishes to go back in time so he could meet gunwook earlier... telling gunwook "you have me 🥺" when gunwook said he wants to take care of a cat (!!!!!)... i think ricky is very comfortable with gunwook, and gunwook cares a lot for ricky - the way he loves listening to ricky's yapping and he's always the first one to defend ricky !! they also have kinda of a lowkey flirty vibe between them if you look at them closely... i think there's still a lot of things that need to be discovered about them!! and i do think that they're still at that stage of like... getting to know each other deeper ehe

• gyubgeon: WHERE DO I EVEN START !!! god my friends/idiots to lovers... they dont even realize that they're already falling for each other FOR REAL with every "jagiya" that comes out of their mouths. they're like when two bros keep making jokes abt dating eo or kissing and end up catching very real feelings for each other skfdskfd but i love love loveee that they're such a good match?? they have similar energies and personalities, similar interests too. they're almost the same person lol. they communicate very well w each other even while in their official standing positions and they're at the opposite ends of the line !!

GYUBGEONRIK:

i think what's interesting abt this triangulation is that gyuvin's energy is high almost all the time, ricky is rather calm and soft but there's still a lot of playfulness in him, and gunwook is the one who can balance and/or seamlessly adjust to their energies. i also think that the dynamic changes a little depending on who you put in between/in the middle?? like if gyuvin's in the middle they get so loud and energetic and playful because gyuvin will pull them in, when it's gunwook i like thinking that gyubrik enjoy locking him up in a compliment prison because they love seeing his reactions when they tell him he's pretty, and when it's ricky they treat him like a princess who is meant to be loved and adored and worshipped. i think as a trio they really match each other's vibe a LOT because they're also really good friends who are very very fond of each otherrrr 🥺🥺🥺

my theory is that gyuvin and ricky fell for gunwook at different times - gyuvin obviously during boys planet, and for ricky it was more of a slow burn because it's like he slowly became interested in gunwook bc of forced proximity (they're next to eo in the official standing positions) until they became closer and closer~ and then the slowest burn of all is gunwook towards both of them bc he's still trying to figure out what his feelings for them mean ehe

this is longer than i expected it to be but ackkkk i love gyubgeonrik so much, they're just so gorgeous together ♡♡♡

they seem to think that having notps mean that you're an anti/you hate the pair, when it can just mean that you don't ship them romantically.

i do think that they know that people are interested to know more background and predebut stuff abt the two of them because they've been asked multiple times in their lives/fansigns before but i also think that they would be (rightfully) more interested in talking about themselves and their own experiences over very detailed anecdotes about other members, especially in their lives. although, both of them have mentioned stuff they did together when they were trainees but they never really said anything in detail skdfghdg i've also thought about them not being allowed to talk about their trainee period lol or they just reaaally want to keep it private... or maybe they DO want to talk about it, they just haven't found the right time and place. tbh if i was a writer/producer i'd pitch to do a documentary or a segment about their journey together mmmm... i'm still hoping we'd get some content where they just talk abt it someday hehe

come to think of it no one actually "saw" them (or posted abt seeing them) on their december 19 date last year, we only knew bc they sent messages on bbl about it.... so maybeee that's the case? i mean i don't mind not knowing what they do on their personal time but also, i would like to hear mattbin talk about their dates and stuff x)
