no, kpop wasn't the reason at all hehe, i've been an avid reader and writer since i was in middle school! it's hard to say why i started writing bc i didn't have a specific author that made me go "yes i want to be a writer!!" (i read literature from many different countries and basically every genre and plot), but i have to say my obsession w 18th and 19th century literature was and still is probably my main inspiration.

english isn't my first language, and i've always written a lot in both spanish & french. writing long pieces of fiction in english was uncharted territory for me before i posted behind the mask's 1st chapter! before that, i had written and posted some fics in spanish for other kpop fandoms, but...they were mostly just for my 1-2 friends to read, the engagement you get when posting fics in a language that's not english is honestly next to 0 (unless your fandom is astronomical, but i haven't had that luck either).

what i have to admit though is that even though i read the occasional kpop gg fic here and there, it wasn't until I got into the wujus that i really started to enjoy reading them. i think it's because of a variety of factors: 1) even though ujungs are a small fandom, we have a fair amount of excellent fics 2) it also helped that my #1 obsession, aka sb, was literally the most popular ship in the fandom 3) wujus dynamics are just so, so, so interesting (every pairing makes me go insane) i don't know if it's bc i'm biased and see them through rose-tinted glasses, but i just haven't found any other group that inspires me as much!!!

but yeah...all of that pushed me to finally give writing a fic in english a chance, something i actually had thought of before getting into the wujus. i found a fandom that i felt comfortable in, i found dynamics that i was passionate enough to dedicate my time to, and the rest is history. the thing is, for me, writing rpf is so much more fun than writing fics abt established characters. aus feel much more believable and you can put A LOT of your personal taste into it, especially when writing ships that are more off-screen. i love incorporating bits and pieces of what we get to see and then filling the rest w my own perception of the wujus. or figuring out how x would act in y scenario!!! see, ppl who hate rpf are missing out on so much. i'm serious. it's such a fun experience when you really love the people you're writing abt and you treat it as a movie where the idols are simply actors of that fantasy (with some of their on-screen personality sprinkled throughout).

i'm not gonna lie, i feel like majority of people who don't write underestimate how much time you have to put into each fic. even more so if you're not writing in your native language, as i am. the amount of time i spend learning new words, highlighting expressions i didn't know when reading in english so i can use them myself later, finding a style that feels true to my original writing style in spanish but also flows well enough in english... i mean, you can love something a lot, and i think if i didn't love wjsn so much, i wouldn't have dared to ever put my fics out there for everyone to see, but i feel like for people who write for small fandoms & in a language that isn't their mother tongue, it's impossible for your love for the fandom alone to sustain that amount of work and sacrifice. you also have to love writing A LOT. and that's the case with me, at least!👁️

i'll definitely write about bbobin one day because i have an unhealthy obsession w them (i can't stop thinking about that time jiyeon said that when soobin got drunk she was like "unnie....my heart is beating so fast..." LIKE HELLO??????????)

seolwon is actually one of my fave pairings too, even with the lack of interactions (all combinations of enypnion drive me crazy actually)

oh exlu for sure are popular in korea! it shocked me when I found out bc it feels like no one in the int ujung side notices them? i didn't pay much attention to them until recently actually!

well the main reason is really to finally write park soobin as a main character 😭 i think i've mentioned this before but i think majority of ppl don't know that soob is actually my 2nd bias in wjsn. it's true i tend to write a lot more about jiyeon (she's my main bias per se, i think her charm is easier to translate into romance-focused fics & my obsession with sb/bonlu also plays a big part in that) but i couldn't go on without writing about soob as well so. i thought long and hard about which pairing should i write for her. most people see soobin and immediately think of seolbin & exbin, but even though i love those pairings a lot i don't see myself writing them? i tend to prefer writing about ships that are more subtle in a sense? so i can construct a narrative that is more catered to my own tastes. this is the main problem i have when i think of myself writing abt seolbin as a main pairing. they have one of my fave dynamics of wjsn, but we have so much content of them already that it's like. what can i add? when a ship consists only of crumbs (sb i'm looking at you) there's so many more gaps to fill as a writer. you can create your own version of the ship in a way. but with a ship that is as public as seolbin, i think the ship controls what i write and not the other way around. it's the same as writing a fic about a ship that's canon in the source material. it's like, yeah, it's nice, but i can't add anything new as a writer.

okay, so, going back to sooblu. originally i was going to write about bbobin (sorry i'm a v simple person, they are my 2 biases and i go crazy every time they interact) but. i've liked sooblu for some time now and

1. they have this kind of subtle bond that i go crazy about
2. i was watching THIS and how can you not go crazy about this. literally. soob being so shy!??¿??¿ luda panicking too???? jiyeon at their side with a hand over her mouth in pure shock????? hello???????????
3. i've been wanting to write a magical girl au wuju fic for some time now AND THEY ARE THE PERFECT FIT FOR THAT. literally. no other pairing even comes close.

there's a fourth reason too but that one will stay a secret until the fic is posted bc it's more related to the fic's storyline and i don't want to spoil everything so.🤐

anyway! sorry for this bible of an answer 😭 that was the mental process that preceded me writing about sooblu.

i totally agree! i think a lot about the fact that sooblu debuted in the same group not 1, not 2, but 3 TIMES (wjsn, chocome, feverse) it's like fate keeps bringing them together again and again, quite insane, actually.

i like reading all wuju pairings too! sb, bnlu & ldw are generally my top 3, but they have so many entertaining dynamics going on that it's impossible not to love them all (& so many good fics too!! especially for a fandom that's not that big)

no problem!🤍 lol regarding the not angsty enough thing i was talking more in general, not about that specific fic but yeah!! that one is very bittersweet and the ending is quite hopeful. writing canon-compliant taengsic is a difficult mission, i think you have to put a lot of thought into the dialog to make it seem plausible enough for the reader, so i admire that fic a lot as a writer bc it felt really faithful to both tae & sica personas.
