i'm not sure why you mentioned colleen hoover specifically, but one of the main reason people hate her is bc she defended her rap!st son and tried to capitalize on her DV book by selling coloring books
I mentioned her because I think she’s the number one author synonymous with booktok books, and booktok books have a certain connotation to them in terms of their skill-level (as does she). I’m aware of her shitty son, and I know a very vocal corner of the internet is as well, but she’s still a hugely top selling author so the reality is that most people don’t hate her for that in the general public. Also, to be frank, my point in bringing her up is not about her being hated, it was about the associated skill level her books imply. They are fast food books, the kind of books that draw people who don’t read in. Highly consumable but not necessarily the highest of quality (arguably).

Honestly I don’t. My opinion on her writing is that it’s extremely weak and should have been unpublishable. But I’m not talking about my opinion here, I’m talking in a more objective sense about her presence in the world of writing and what that means. That’s why I’m not, within the argument, denouncing her for her atrocious shittiness (although I do think what she did w regards to her son is fucking terrible). I’m making an argument about something to do with her written work in a broder spectrum of how we treat art and that’s it.
ew. i'm surprised you have such high views about CH writing. being an amazing writer urself, its a shock to me.
