That the reason floppies are called "floppies" even though they're rigid is because they used to be floppy That religion was really important in the past That DDR can mean more stuff other than "Dance Dance Revolution" or "Double Data Rate" And so on...

i live in a christian majority country, but i wasnt raised religious. for the longest time i thought things like "oh my god" was just a turn of phrase, until one day i asked my friend to come visit my house on sunday and she said she couldnt because of church. i didnt know what church was, and was real mad it was more important than me. after that i had it explained to me by my mom.

idk if this really counts as "common knowledge," but for the longest time I believed that "layers" in digital art just meant putting darker shades of color on lighter colors, and not actual layers in the app. I'd go "oh yeah I used a ton of layers" when in reality, I only used one.
