Hi! I'm here because of the Doorman, and stayed because of all your other works! Very excited for your WIP.
I'm obsessed with Doorman JK & TY in the era of the two years before TY entered darklight. My favourite dialogue in the whole fic (which is so hard to choose because there are so many!) is ch. 10: "I wished that I could have been the bartender you could flirt with by the bar.â Bringing his hand down, he glances at Taehyung timidly, admitting it like it was an apology, âI think... He would have asked you to stay after closing. He would have done everything he could. To make sure that you knew that it was never one-sided.â
I know you gave us some great stories about that time in the fic! But can I ask what it would have looked like for JK if he had been able to do that? If he'd been able to do everything he could to let TY know it wasn't one-sided?
I feel like we saw what TY would have wanted it to look like. But how would non-doorman JK have got his man?
gosh, what a good question... such a difficult one too! i donât know if itâs possible for me to even imagine a timeline like that, since taking the doorman aspect out of jeonggukâs character also changes him in fundamental ways; iâm not sure i know that jeongguk at all. moreover, it wouldnât have been in his nature to risk taehyungâs life. it only ever happened because he had repressed his own feelings for so long, and felt so desperately lonely, that he let himself slip for a moment and left the door open.
but IF there could have been some chance for jeongguk to show taehyung how he feels, if only for the sake of letting him know that he wasnât alone with his feelings, i doubt that it would have happened on the first night or for some time after that. jeongguk was completely floored by taehyung when he met him, because at the time, taehyung was confident, happy, and aware of his own charm. what eventually stopped taehyung from hitting on jeongguk was the lack of response from him, which led him to believe that jeongguk wasnât interested. but he flirted, tried to make him jealous, lived his best life etc. he was a total star back then.
so, i think it would have taken some time for jeongguk to pluck up his courage and do something. it would have been something direct yet subtle, like letting their fingers brush over the bartop or holding taehyungâs gaze purposefully long. he might have protested against taehyung dancing with someone else by repeatedly changing the song (heh) or coincidentally walking right between them on his way to clear the tables. this would have both annoyed and amused their friends, of course.
but hopefully, it would have led taehyung to linger one night until the bar was closing, which then would have seen them having one of those late-night conversations at the bar. i do think jeongguk would have said something along the lines of: âi know what youâre doing. you donât need to do it. what you want was yours the night we met.â
but would it have then been possible for jeongguk and taehyung to be together, if jeongguk was still the doorman? would jeongguk have tried to keep his secret from taehyung? would taehyung have ended up on the other side of the door regardless? probably. but that would have been a very different story of love and betrayal; maybe strangers to lovers to exes to lovers again? phew... they just canât win!
but of course they would have had their happy ending nevertheless~⥠thank you for this question, i had a fun time thinking about this!! xx
Oh my God cries in macbeth This was the perfect response, tysm! I love that the line of dialogue you wrote is so JK-Doorman coded, which should be unsurprising, but the way you've stepped right back into his character after all this time is beautiful!
