Tick.
Tick.
Time passes. Does it? Or does it linger?
Do you hear it?
Or is it only your heartbeat?
Are they not the same thing? You only hear them if you pay attention, as they are a reminder of your life and the time that is passing. The one difference is that you know your own heartbeat, you don't know the sound of passing time. You know what the sound of your life is. With each breath, between each one, your life is done in moments, not the seconds of a clock.

But if your life is the sound of the clock, then you do not know the sound of a heartbeat, perhaps. Is your heart a clock, of which indicates time, or is it the involuntary muscle that beats to keep a vessel beating, until it is the event that is your decomposition? I wonder if machines understand life in the same way as life with flesh and blood is.
