Hello, as someone who is new in BL (just started in july 2023) your BL recs & reviews, really help me. Thanks a lot!
Can I ask something? My friend who is shoujosei lover told me that shoujo-BL is just as great as regular BLs and have longer stories. But when I read them, somehow I don't feel like reading BL (sorry, I know it's weird thing to say). What do you think? If a manga have canon m/m couples or romance between males, does it mean they're also BL? Some that I read are : Kieta Hatsukoi, Requiem of Rose King, Cruel God Reign, God Child, and Golden Days.
- nah i get it. shoujo has a different vibe to modern bl to me at least. like, it feels way more idealized and honestly i prefer the more "grounded" feel bl has
- hmmmm if we want to talk about it in a marketing (?) perspective then it Depends. if something is marketed as a bl, run in a bl magazine, or is under a bl label, then that's what i define as actual "bl." kieta hatsukoi is a strange one but i feel like that would be considered bl, although i haven't looked too deeply into it. chillchill lists titles that aren't marketed as bl but has gay subtext and there would be an indicator somewhere that it's not bl
