HMM .. i think it can depend a bit on the genre, but i personally believe that the adequation and a good plot are necessary no matter its genre ! i do tend to prefer animes with deep plots or, on the other hand, really cute moments, but as long as it fits its genre properly and the characters, story and all of that fit the plot and the intention of the anime is okay for me ! for example, i really like serial experiments lain because it makes me reflect on stuff and i love making my own theories or rewatching it a lot to see if i can get closer to the actual meaning of every single thing; but then i also really like gekkan shoujo nozaki kun because it's a cute romcom anime in which ALL the characters have some importance, which might be more or less but they're still there, and they follow a plot while being able to have little side thingies !! idk how to explain it, but that's it !
